On behalf of Maybole Regeneration project, Scottish Geologist will be coming to Maybole to run workshops teaching those who may be interested about the basics of geology as well as the geology of Scotland and the building stones of Maybole.

Each rock tells a story about Earth’s ancient past and learning how to read that rock can tell you where it came from, how it formed, and the forces that shaped our planet over millions - even billions of years…

Ever wondered how to tell the difference between a granite and a gneiss rock? or why some rocks look sparkly and others don’t?

Am gonna teach you…

Join me @scottishgeologist for an engaging two-hour workshop exploring the amazing rock types we have here in Scotland.

Through interactive activities, real-world samples and plenty of hand’s on samples you’ll learn:

  • The three main rock types and how they form

  • How to identify common rocks and differences between them (15 minerals)

  • A brief geological history of Scotland

  • Tips and ticks for recognising textures, patterns and crystal forms

  • The geological stories that rocks can tell us about Earth’s history

  • a walking tour along Maypoles high street examining the rocks that make up the building stones.

Whether you’re a curious beginner, a budding rockhound, or just looking for a deeper appreciation of the ground beneath your feet, this session will leave you seeing the landscape in a whole new way.

No prior experience required - Just bring your curiosity.
